Kanye Westfall Pre-Season

If Kanye Westfall was scared going into his 1st pre-season game with the Coyotes he didn’t show it.  “No, No.  I felt good.  Was super happy to get the jitters out.  They were gone by midway through the first shift.”

The Coyotes played The San Jose Sharks here at home in Glendale.  The Coyote home crowd was super excited to have the ‘Yotes back and you can tell the feeling was mutual.  After the Coyotes got out on the ice and settled down it was business as usual.  The Coyotes displayed their normal physical style and it was led by Mr. Westfall.  The rookie had 12 hits and led the team on the ice with the physical play.  As the game went on his hits seemed to be a little more charged and that is what the Coyotes hope the missing ingredient will be for a winning season.

The physical highlight happened when Kanye fought with San Jose pest Raffi Torres.  Although Torres technically got the best of Westfall, he definitely looked worse for wear.

Now on to the best part about our heralded rookie; he had 2 goals. The second one coming on a very pretty wrister that beat the San Jose goalie after the puck was deflected and landed on his stick. It looked like it would be the winner but San Jose stud Joe Thornton tied the game late in the 3rd and sent it into OT.

In the extra session, Phoenix star Keith Yandle took a pass from Mike Ribeirio and flicked a wrister from the left face off circle beating the San Jose goalie over the shoulder stick side for the pre-season win.

It is going to be a fun season. After the game there was a feeling of a team being ready to play. We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves as it was only the beginning of the pre-season but no doubt smiles and fun should be plentiful all season.
