Freezers Eliminate Scorpions in 6 Games on Stacy OT Winner

Hannover, Germany-

It took 6 games, quite a few nasty hits and multiple overtimes, but the Hamburg Freezers are going to be moving on to the semi finals of the 2013 DEL German Hockey EA Sports (TTS version) Playoffs! The Freezers defeated the Hannover Scorpions in OT winning 4-3 and taking the series 4 games to 2. The winning goal was scored on the power play by Paul Stacy, his second goal of the night. The power play was the result of a terrible roughing penalty taken by Scorpions Center Chris Herpberger with 17 seconds left in the game. The penalty then carried over to OT, where Stacy netted the game winner just 15 seconds in. They will now be moving on to play ERC Ingolstadt, who defated the Straubing Ice Tigers in 4 straight games.

The Freezers survived 2 major defensive lapses that resulted in breakway goals for Hannover, and almost allowed a 3rd on a breakaway in the 3rd period when left wing Sachar Blank hit the post. Charlie Cook, a defenseman for Hamburg was beaten on 2 of the 3 breakaways and after the game stated that he knows he will have to correct his mistakes if the Freezers want to advance further.

Mikhail Kupchik was probably the biggest factor of this game, earning the 1st star with a goal and 3 assists. Public Enemy #1 as the Hannover fans like to call him, opened the scoring with a slap shot from the right circle early in the first period that beat Patzold stick side. He also would go on to assist Stacy in OT for the game winner. Because of an earlier hit in the series on Hannover captain Sasha Goc, Kupchik was booed mercilessly everytime he touched the puck. After the game Kupchik talked about how it motivated him. “I love getting booed. Call me the villain, public enemy, whatever. I play hard because that is in my blood. I love playing this game, and want to showcase my team every chance we get. If Im getting booed than we are probably playing the style of game we want to play.”
